50,000 BTU’s in the tank, A Cumberland Solar Hot Water Update
October 14, 2009
When I arrived this morning to meet the insulation crew and tie up a few loose ends I knew we had a nice solar hot water day on our hands. Crisp air, blue skies and 60 tubes on the roof! By the time I last checked in at 3:00 in the afternoon the tank was hovering at 150 degrees top to bottom which was a gain of over 50,000 BTU’s from it’s starting point of a rough average of 85 degrees (69 bottom of tank 107 top). That is 105 gallons of 150 degree water from the sun! In the winter we feed this into the indirect storage tank which is set at 135 degrees. There will be plenty of days this winter when the homeowners will be using 100% solar hot water.
